As a followup to the last post about the story Three Questions I want to mention something else I’ve read that has a similar theme. In the book The Way Is Made By Walking there is a chapter called “Focal Ways of Life”. In this chapter the author quotes Albert Borgmann with the following:
I tell them about the four focal affirmations and ask them,
“When were you last able to affirm them?”
There is no place I would rather be.
There is nothing I would rather do.
There is no one I would rather be with
This I will remember well.
There were a couple times this summer that these were particularly true for me, such as at a family reunion and while our church had our annual weekend at Camp Squeah.
The quote is from a book written by Arthur Paul Boers. I mentioned it in an earlier post Books for the Journey.
I have been looking at the iBooks store for the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad. While I have seen comments by some about the selection being limited there are some interesting books that I have come across. A few are books by J.R.R. Tolkein, namely “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings”. There are also books by C.S. Lewis, a well know Christian writer who was a contemporary of Tolkein. Among the books are “Mere Christianity” and “The Narnia Chronicles”. (Although one of the Narnia books doesn’t seem to be there and only one book from his sci-fi trilogy is in the store.)
There are also lots of good books that one can download for free, made available from Project Gutenberg. One that I have downloaded is by Leo Tolstoy called “What Men Live By and Other Tales”. The collection includes a short story called “Three Questions”. This is a memorable story for me that I first heard as part of a sermon during the summer I was preparing to go to Spain. The story is about a king seeking answers to what are the important matters in life. Questions about who is important, time and what are the important things to be doing. After not being satisfied with the answers from his advisors he seeks out a hermit where events show him the answers he is looking for.
The BC Place Stadium roof was deflated earlier this week so that it can be replaced with a new retractable roof. Below is a picture of BC Place and the Vancouver skyline soon after the stadium was built.

The Vancouver Olympics are over now and it is only 100 days until another major sporting event: the FIFA World Cup taking place in South Africa this summer. The World Cup will begin June 11 with a game between South Africa and Mexico.
