Expo ’86 in Vancouver

Another anniversary that took place this week was the 25th anniversary of the opening of Expo ’86. It was an event that put Vancouver in the international spotlight and was a highlight for everyone that attended. There were pavilions from many countries with a transportation based theme. I was there a few times and remember it as a good time. I even had the chance to take part along with the MEI band I was in at the time. That day there was also an Amy Grant concert, though, I didn’t make it to that. Below are a few pictures. Continue reading

400th Anniversary of KJV

First published in 1611, yesterday, May 2 marked as the 400th anniversary of the KJV (King James Version) of the Bible. The translation has been influential and as a result many are making note of the anniversary in different ways this year. With today’s media technology, one of those ways is the YouTube Bible project of people recording passages from the Bible and posting them on YouTube.

The Bible still speaks today and and we can continue to be thankful for the good news that is declared in the Bible. Pray for those who continue to work on translation projects that people may be able to read the Bible in their own language.

A few more questions

As a followup to the last post about the story Three Questions I want to mention something else I’ve read that has a similar theme. In the book The Way Is Made By Walking there is a chapter called “Focal Ways of Life”. In this chapter the author quotes Albert Borgmann with the following:

I tell them about the four focal affirmations and ask them,
“When were you last able to affirm them?”
There is no place I would rather be.
There is nothing I would rather do.
There is no one I would rather be with
This I will remember well.

There were a couple times this summer that these were particularly true for me, such as at a family reunion and while our church had our annual weekend at Camp Squeah.

The quote is from a book written by Arthur Paul Boers. I mentioned it in an earlier post Books for the Journey.
